Sing a battle song

As a Women’s Studies minor, having a show on International Women’s Day feels like a huge honor. Starting with a unique artist like Meg Sheppard seemed like the right move. Better choices could have been made afterward.

I have been a minimalist for as long as I can remember. Credit an austere military-style upbringing for not retaining nostalgia much. This is similarly the case with keeping music. When I was 23, I had perhaps my largest collection of albums, around 40, lost in a move. Since then, I’ve kept it exclusively digital. I understand the love for vinyl and physical media in general. My mind can’t help but think of clutter, and it ends there for me.

Dusty Henry wrote an unsparing assessment of why record collecting had consumed so much of life, which helped me grasp this passion some. From perceptions of how cool it is to simple compulsion, it’s vulnerable and honest. Then there’s disconnecting. We could all use more of that.
