Efflorescence is a chemical concept that relates to the travel of salt to the surface of another material. In constructed environments, you see this when a fine white coating of salt envelopes a slope or building or another edifice.

In some cases, efflorescence can indicate a weakness in a structure. In others, efflorescence is wholly cosmetic. Humidity, temperature and other factors can impact such verdicts.
